Collab Sailmate X Le Penseur Hybridbag

The Idea

Peter (Owner of Le Penseur) and Anna (Founder of Sailmate) got connected through a common friend Suzanne, who is running sustainable initiatives under the name Oceanpreneur.

You can call it a coincidence, but fact is that our common sense about sustainability and sailing lead us together.

With Sailmate and Le Penseur we are thinking about solutions that make our lives more sustainable. Our collaboration is one of these ideas embodied in a bag.

The partner

Peter is in the final phase of finishing his customized 52ft Catamaran Le Penseur. Building a boat like that is a major project and takes a lot of good heads and hands. His work with the shipyard Privilege Marine is going well and Peter wanted to give back a suitable and personal gift to their 140 employees.

Based on his ideas we created a duffle bag that is also wearable as a bag pack. But more about the product later. Le Penseur is not an ordinary boat and actually it’s the first of its class build as a hybrid catamaran.  She is running on electric engines on a technology coming from Torqeedo and is called deep blue. The idea to abstain from common diesel machine is the starting point, but to build a hybrid catamaran it takes more adjustments than just switching the engines.

Collab Sailmate X DOM fannypack

The Idea

Sailmate and Dom are individual brands with an unique and different style, but our values bring us close. That’s what makes the fusion of both brands very exciting. We believe in strong collaborations and that mixing up ideas creates newness and fashion. We share the same values when it comes to sustainability, diversity and our local approach. Dom Amsterdam created their iconic fanny pack. They have a huge variety and all of them are made of fabric waste which makes creates endless new looks. Upcycling is something Sailmate and Dom share and that’s why we created a fanny pack of used sails. We see inspiration around us and working with preused materials is part of it. Our materials carry stories and are ready for new experiences.

The partner

Beside the fabric approach we have more in common. Same as Sailmate Dom is producing with Makers Unite a social responsible enterprise that integrates newcomers/refugees through their manufacturing. A fair and local production is meaningful for both brands and creates another connection. In general both brands stand for a cultural mix. Zheng from Dom bags has Chinese roots and is born and raised in the Netherlands. While Anna from Sailmate is a German sailor, who stranded in the Netherlands. Both our brands are born and based in Amsterdam. Having a local approach is another value that Dom and Sailmate share. Amsterdam is a melting pot of cultures and ideas. Both brands are founded here and rooted to this place and it’s vibes.

Collab Sailmate X Join the Crew Sailsack

The Idea

Sailing teams, organizations and crews create a strong community. Having their unique product with their own logo and style was the starting point for this project. Join the Crew is an organization that offers active sailing trips. They were partners from the early days of Sailmate and thrilled to create a product that is sustainable, authentic to sailing and branded with their message and logo.

The idea to choose a gymsack was born during a sailing trip, when Mathias from the Marketing department and Anna founder of Sailmate were together on the boat. Thinking about a functional and cool style for sailing trips and seeing lots of crew members wearing gymsacks lead to the product we call now the JTC sailsack.

The partner

Join the Crew is a sailing organization that brings young people together to enjoy active sailing and exploring at sea. Over the years they built up a strong and dynamic community which brings around 3,000 young sailors together each year. Their brand values shape the community and create the experience the JTC sailors have on their unique trips. Lots of love is their starting point which means lots of love for the community, locals, animals and of course nature.
